Each stitch is a memory.
The legacy of a loved one is not only the “Gift of Life” given by donor families, for some, it is also in a quilt square.
Honor quilts hang throughout the CTDN office to honor and remember those who have donated. Each one is unique and personal. Some have pictures; others sayings.
We are now gathering memories from other donor families for more Honor Quilts. Once created, they will be displayed in the Oakland office, as well as at the Donor Family Ceremonies.
The designs must be 8 inch squares on and 8 ½ inch square. Do not “finish” the quilt with quilting or backing.
Use any color or fabric –including such sentimental materials as your loved one’s baby blanket, high school jacket, tie or favorite sweater. You may use buttons, Crayons, fabric, paint, markers, glitter, thread, yarn or other mediums on the square. You can also include a photograph, poem, quote or other symbols of your loved one’s life.
Feel free to include the name of your loved one as well as their day of birth and death. Please contact Beverly Mayer at 510-444-8500 with any questions.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I submit a square for someone who gave the ‘Gift of Life’ several years ago? Yes. There is no time limit on who can be included in the quilt project.
How do I send my quilt square? First, consider taking a picture of your square before you send it to CTDN so you will always remember your design. Please send the square using an insured carrier or registered mail. Put the square in a sealable plastic bag to insure it arrives clean and safe.
Please fill out the form and include that. It should include your name, address, phone numbers, email addresses as well as your loved one’s name. IMPORTANT: Submit the sample quilt square with you other paperwork.
