Transplant Network staff asked to present at ASMHTP and NATCO conventions
Community Outreach Coordinators Sandy Andrada and Salvador Guerrero will speak on Multicultural Diversity and Issues on Transplantation.
Anyone who has attended an American Society of Multicultural Health and Transplant Professionals (ASMHTP) conference has felt the rush of excitement when surrounded by a group of people that is passionate about their work, their cultural identity, and how the two unite. ASMHTP is unique in the way it brings together a rich and diverse group of professionals who are ready and willing to share their experiences in order to further our work in the fields of donation and transplantation.
In this presentation, Sandy and Sal will briefly share some information regarding the Hispanic, African American, and Chinese communities as it relates to our work. Though differences are many, in the end it is our commonalities that become most apparent. By studying these commonalities, we are better equipped to serve our multicultural communities. By reviewing these different cultures, we have learned that each culture is rich in it's own diversity. We have also learned that there are commonalities in terms of how each culture views death, dying, and organ/tissue donation. Working with different ethnic communities isn't about knowing the minutiae of each culture, but about finding the common bonds amongst us all.
