Who We Are: The California Transplant Donor Network is the official link between organ and tissue donors and individuals awaiting transplantation.
Based in Oakland and operating since 1987, we're a federally designated non-profit organ procurement organization (OPO). We're also one of the nation's largest OPO's and we serve 160 hospitals and 11 million people in 40 counties in Northern and Central California and Nevada.
What We Do: The California Transplant Donor Network coordinates organ recovery and distribution, and educates healthcare professionals and the public, about the importance of organ and tissue donation and the success of transplantation. To accomplish our mission, we also work with hospital staffs to offer and explain the option of donation to families whose loved ones have died.
Our Role and the Media: Factual information is the most important issue in any story, but misinformation about organ and tissue donation can cost lives. This is especially true considering the number of myths about donation and transplantation circulating in our society. Any story that mentions organ and tissue donation or transplantation is an opportunity for vitally needed public education.
To this endeavor, we're first a resource to you about organ/tissue donation and transplantation. We can be your "Go-to" for information and we can help you understand the issues of this life-saving work.
Second, we're a partner to you. Together we can educate and inform the public so that more people can give and receive the Gift of Life.
