Hero finds a hero himself

An active San Francisco Fire Captain was bed ridden and his heart failing, until a hero stepped forward.

On Jan. 2, a San Francisco Fire Captain and Benicia resident Anthony Robinson rode down Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena as part of the 2012 Rose Parade.

He’s got a lot to celebrate, like another year of life.

And he’s got a hero to honor, someone who gave him the heart which now heart beats in his chest.

Anthony Robinson, a heart transplant recipient, was among 28 people chosen to ride on Donate Life America’s “Just Imagine One More Day” float in the annual parade spectacular seen by millions around the world each year.

Since his 2010 transplant, Anthony has been an active CTDN Donate LIFE Ambassador, asking people to sign up as donors so other’s lives can be saved.

This year’s overall parade theme was “Just Imagine”  and the Donate Life float theme was "One More Day".

From a hospital bed in February 2010, it was hard for the San Francisco Bay Area native to imagine life was going to get better. His bad heart confined him to that hospital bed.  The fire captain – a hero to many for his line of work – needed a hero to save his life.  But on May 9, 2010 his prayers were answered with a heart transplant.

His hero was a 39-year-old man who died as the result of a brain aneurysm.   Since then, “It’s a new life” with a new heart.

It’s a few minutes of time to register, but by taking the time, he says, “You are saving someone’s life.”
